Where have you been recently? Where are you going next?

These are usually the first few questions I get when I see people I haven’t seen in a while. In the last few weeks I’ve had that conversation a few times. This makes sense when you realize that in the last 18 months I've logged about 20,000 miles worth of road trips. In that 20,000 miles I've gone to 26 states plus Washington, DC. I love flying, but I've done much more driving recently.

As I was on my way home from my latest trip I started thinking about travel. Why do some people like to travel and others don’t? Why do some like planes better than cars and others would rather drive? Why is my world a better place when I’m planning a trip?

First the answers to the questions:

Where have I been?
•The last short trips—Champaign and Chicago, IL and Greenville, SC
•The last long trip—The Grand Canyon and other points in the southwest

Where am I going next?
•The next short trip—Washington, DC
•The next long trip—Yellowstone and other points along the way and back
•The next overseas trip—Greece

I love to travel. LOVE. I’m a happier person when I’m planning a trip—especially if it’s somewhere I’ve never been. Recently I’ve found myself telling people things they should see on their upcoming trips. I’ve had people ask me to map out trips for them. I love suggesting a place I love and then hearing that someone else loved it to.

This blog is going to be about travel—places I go or want to go, places I think everyone should see, travel suggestions and advice, etc. I’d love to hear about your favorite trips and places you think I should see.
